At some selective institutions, the ACT is taken by a larger number of students than the SAT. The most recent report for the University of Michigan, for example, indicates that 74% of new students chose the ACT, compared to 52% who submitted SAT scores (clearly, some students are undergoing both examinations). Almost 80% of the latest class of first-year Michigan students received composite ACT scores of 30 or higher, and less than 2% scored below 23. Michigan, like most American universities, requires its undergraduate applicants to submit scores for either the ACT or SAT (while a number of schools have implemented test-optional or test-flexible policies, few of these institutions are among the most selective). High test scores and GPA remain the most important credentials for university acceptance, and in the current environment, there is no bias for or against either the ACT or the SAT. Students may therefore choose whichever of these exams is best for their unique circumstances.
Manhattan Review's ACT prep courses and ACT private tutoring consistently produce competitive college applications and selective university acceptances. Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Chicago, Georgetown, the University of California-Berkeley, Brown, Carnegie Mellon, Vanderbilt, Johns Hopkins, Swarthmore, Tufts, Notre Dame, the College of William & Mary, Cornell, Dartmouth, the University of Virginia, the University of North Carolina, the University of Texas, and the University of California-Los Angeles are just a few of the top schools we've helped our students enter. Elite education usually facilitates career success, and our students are no exception. Many of our former test prep clients are now employed by Fortune 500 companies, such as JP Morgan Chase, CVS Health, Enterprise Products Partners, Walgreens Boots Alliance, State Farm Insurance, and Wells Fargo. "Marcella M.'s ACT prep course was one of the best educational experiences I've ever had," wrote one recent client. "She really knows how to engage her students and inspire them to learn." We see these types of student comments on Marcella's teaching evaluations all the time, and she has become an integral member of our Rio de Janeiro ACT instructional staff.
Marcella graduated magna cum laude from the University of Texas-Austin with a bachelor of arts in history, and then completed a master's degree in education at Rice University. She has been teaching ACT prep courses and one-on-one ACT tutoring since she finished her master's degree in 2010, and her instruction has improved the test scores of over 700 students.
